The University of Vechta will present the
Höffmann Academic Award for Intercultural Competence 2009The Höffmann Academic Award for Intercultural Competence is a donation from Höffmann-Reisen GmbH, a travel organization in Vechta. The University of Vechta confers the award each year to a qualified nominee. This year’s first award values 10,000.00 euros.
The Höffmann Academic Award is part of a long-term program that is determined to support intercultural competence, which is the key to a peaceful and constructive co-operation of people from different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds. It also helps to recognize similarities and to learn from differences. Issues concerning intercultural aspects are an integrative part of academic research in many ways for numerous disciplines.
The Höffmann Academic Award intends to support the endeavors of academics by distinguishing prominent, groundbreaking work done in the fields of intercultural competence. Such work can either concentrate on a single perspective related to the field in just one discipline or be interdisciplinary in nature.
Nominations should be made by either universities or research institutions. Self-nomination is not permitted.
Please include the following with nominations:
- a detailed explanatory statement for proposal
- two statements of opinion, each from a designated university lecturer
- a curriculum vitae with photograph of the nominee and, if applicable, a list of his/her publications
- a printed version of the research work and, if possible, an additional copy in electronic format
- a general summary of the work of up to three pages in length (abstract)
Nominations and documents can be submitted in either English or German.
If the research work has already been published, the date of publication should not be older than two years.
Allocation guidelines for the award and additional information can be found at the University of Vechta website.
A jury is responsible for allocation of the award.
The academic award will be given during a public academic ceremony at the University of Vechta at the end of November 2009.
