Yasmira P. Moner

Yasmira Moner

Acting Director

Yasmira “Yash” P. Moner is the Acting Director of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM) and Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science of the Mindanao State University.

She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Mindanao State University, earned masteral units in Political Science from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, and her Master in Governmental Science from the School of Jusuf Kalla, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Indonesia. She wears many hats in her community: educator, peace activist, and in her personal and professional roles, as one of the bearers of the Bangsamoro’s cultural, political and development aspirations.

Her research interests include post-conflict governance, Peace processes, social movements and political dynamics in the Bangsamoro.


Karen Veloso

Karen Veloso

Peace Education Coordinator

Assistant Professor Karen R. Veloso is a faculty of the MSU-IIT College of Nursing. She is currently the Peace Education Coordinator of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM). Formerly, she had been Peace Action Coordinator.

As a clinical instructor for Nursing, she handles rotations in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing, School Nursing, as well as in the Emergency Room and Dialysis Unit.

She has facilitated numerous extension activities as a member of CON’s College Research and Extension Committee. She has previously been an Extension Coordinator for the college and is among the first recipients of MSU-IIT’s PRAISE Faculty Extension Award. She has also received a certificate of commendation from the Iligan City government and MSU-IIT as a volunteer for Typhoon Sendong relief operations.

In the wake of the Marawi Siege, she has assisted in providing mental health and psychosocial support to several groups aside from participating in different Marawi rehabilitation related activities and projects on the prevention of violent extremism.

She has presented papers internationally and was recognized as one of the best presenters in the 3rd International Conference on Healthcare and Allied Sciences 2019.


Arnold Alamon

Arnold Alamon

Peace Research Coordinator

Arnold P. Alamon currently teaches Sociology at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology where he also serves as the Peace Research Coordinator of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao of MSU-IIT. He authored the books “Wars of Extinction: Discrimination and the Lumad Struggle” in 2017 and “Nation in Our Hearts: Essays on Mindanao” published in 2017 by the UP Press.

He finished his undergraduate and master’s degree from the University of the Philippines-Diliman where he taught for several years in the early part of his career but later moved back to Mindanao where he now teaches and undertakes research in MSU-IIT. His expertise include indigenous studies particularly on the Lumad, peace and conflict studies, and the political economy of Mindanao.


Abu Al-Rasheed Tanggol

Peace Action Coordinator

Abu Al-Rasheed “Boggs” T. Tanggol is the Peace Action Coordinator of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM). He is also an Associate Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology where he teaches Fundamentals of Peace Education, and Conflict Resolution and Management, among others.

He has worked in the areas of inter-cultural/religious dialogue, conflict resolution, and transitional justice since 2011. He served in the Bangsamoro Transition Commission as legal officer of Commissioner Johaira Wahab in 2013, and consultant to Commissioner Samira Gutoc-Tomawis in 2017. In 2015, he was a rapporteur for the legitimate grievances of the Bangsamoro study group at Transitional Justice and Reconciliation Commission.

He obtained his Master in Public Policy at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS) as an NUS ASEAN graduate scholar and Philippine Commission on Higher Education scholar. During his time in Singapore, he was also a graduate teaching assistant for the module International Conflict Analysis and Resolution and consultant to the United Nations High Commission for the Refugees, Malaysia for a research project on the inclusion of refugees to formal education. He finished his Juris Doctor degree at Mindanao State University and his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration at the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

Boggs is a member of the Young Moro Professionals Network and the Alliance of Muslim Advocates of Law. His research interests are in peace and conflict resolution, judicial reform, urban and transport policy, good governance, and education policy.


Queenie Pearl Tomaro

Queenie Pearl V. Tomaro is a faculty member at the Department of Political Science where she teach courses in Political Analysis, Politics and Governance in Southeast Asia, Local Government in the Philippines, and Fundamentals of Peace Education. She is also the secretary of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao of MSU-IIT.

She has a BA degree in Political Science from Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology and a Master’s degree in Governmental Studies from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta- Indonesia under a full scholarship grant from Jusuf Kalla School of Government.

She is presently an executive committee member of the Young Women Leaders + for Peace and Leadership, a nation-wide network of young peacebuilders under the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP). She also volunteers as editor to the publications team of the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership.

She has several researches published in internationally refereed and SCOPUS-indexed journals. Queenie’s research interests are in areas of women, peace, and security, public policy, and peace and conflict studies.


Ryan Tundag

Ryan Jay O. Tundag is the Financial Assistant of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao (IPDM). He graduated with a Bachelor degree in History in the year 2013 in MSU-IIT. He also earned education units under theCertificate program in Professional Teaching (CPRT) in the year 2020 in MSU-IIT.

During 2014 to 2015, he was hired as the database encoder by International Alert. In 2016, he attended and completed a one week training course on “Introduction to Conflict Transformation” from Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute (MPI). The following year, he also attended and completed the one week training course on “Conflict Resolution Skills: Mediation and Dialogue” by Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute.


Settie Sahara D. Mutia-Magumpara

Settie Sahara D. Mutia-Magumpara

Administrative Officer III

Settie Sahara “Zhar” D. Mutia-Magumpara is the Administrative Officer of the Institute for Peace and Development in Mindanao of Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology- Iligan City. She is also an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Political Science of the same institute teaching Fundamentals of Peace Education (FPE101).

She has been working for community, peace, and development since 2010. She was an intern at the House of Representatives as part of the Congressional Internship Program for Young Mindanao Leaders in 2010 at the same time took up a Course on Public Policy and Advocacy Development at the University of the Philippines- Diliman in the same year. In 2011 to 2013, she worked as the Peace Coordinator for Peacetech, Inc. In the middle of 2013 up to August 2015, she worked for the Development Academy of the Philippines as Associate Project Officer in Pasig City.

She obtained her Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Development Studies in MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology and currently working on her thesis for Master in Sustainable Development Studies under In-Country Scholarship Program of Australian Awards-Philippines.

Zhar is a member of community-based organizations like the Inspired Young Optimists Guild and Al-Muhsinon Solidarity Action, Inc. And she is also a member of the Young Moro Professionals Network. Her interest is on community development, peacebuilding, interreligious, interculture, education and good governance.


Carl Aljas

Carl Brian S. Aljas

Administrative Aide III

Carl Brian S. Aljas was born on June 24, 1993 in Tignao, Lazi Siquijor. In 2018, He earned a Bachelor degree in Education major in Physics. He joined MSU-IIT as Administrative Aide III in the year 2020.
