College of Science and Mathematics;

Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics

The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) of the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), in cooperation with the Center for Biodiversity Research, Center for Molecular Genomics and Proteomics Innovation and Center for Integrative Health of the Premier Research Institute of Science and Mathematics (PRISM), will host the scientific visit of Prof. Dr. Bart P. Braeckman to the University from July 21, 2024 to August 1, 2024.

Dr. Braeckman is the Head of the Laboratory of Ageing Physiology and Molecular Evolution of the Biology Department, Ghent University in Ghent, Belgium. He will be the Guest Lecturer and Resource Speaker during the following activities:

1.Lecture on a special topic (Advanced Ecophysiology- summer semester) for our graduate students on July 22-29, 2024.

2. One-day Colloquium at PRISM on July 31,2024.

3. Review and discussion of the existing 5-Year Collaborative Agreement and its continuation from October 2024 to October 2029.

DBS is also hosting the visit of Dr. Matthias Herrmann and his Research Assistant Mr. Christian Weiler to the University on July 25-27, 2024. Dr. Herrmann and Mr. Weiler are from Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Biology in Tuebingen, Germany. Dr. Herrmann is the head of the research group “Entomology within the Department for Integrative Evolutionary”.

During their visit, Dr. Herrmann and Mr. Weiler will engage in the following activities on July 25-26, 2024:

1.Conduct of a one-day Lecture Seminar on “Entomo-nematology Science Between Bugs and Worms at the PRISM Conference Hall on July 26, 2024;

2. Finalization of the Tripartite Cooperation Agreement (TCA) between the MPI Tuebingen, MSU-IIT and Central Mindanao University
