Abstract |
The main purpose of this study was to find out the student’s food choices during snack time and their
level of awareness on nutrition. The descriptive method of research was used in this study. The data
gathered through the use of non-standardized questionnaires. Results were computed using the
percentage, weighted mean and Pearson product Moment Correlation. Based on the results, majority
of the respondents were 14-15 years old, female and were Catholics. Most of the respondent’s
mothers are housewives and their fathers are government employees. The educational attainments
of their parents are mostly college graduates and they had a family income of not more than 10,000
pesos monthly. The researchers concluded that majority of the respondents choose soft drinks,
biscuits, cakes, sandwiches and puto during snack time. Age, sex, religion education of parents,
occupation of father and monthly income of parents were not significantly related, only the
occupation of mother affects their level of awareness on the nutrition. Age is significantly correlated
with junk foods as well as income with cakes as choice for snacks. Students are aware about nutrition
based on the results of their test scores. Similar studies must be conducted using a bigger number of
respondents from different schools to find out what are their reasons in their selection of food and
their level of awareness on nutrition. |
