Korean Cultural Festival

In celebration of the 2,333 year anniversary of the founding of Gojoseon (Old Korea) and the signing of a truce between the two Koreas, the MSU-IIT Office of Publication & Information (OPI) hosts the MSU-IIT & Xavier University Korean Cultural Festival to be held on October 2, 2015.

Film showings will be at the CASSalida on October 2, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free.

The forum will be held at the COE Amphitheatre. This is for CASS students and is by invitation only.

This festival is co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA), the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines, and the Korean Tourism Organization in cooperation with the MSU-IIT Cultural Development Office, the Student Government KASAMA and the College of Arts & Social Sciences student organizations: AB English, AB History, AB Political Science and AB Sociology.

The festival consists of:

  1. film showings of a documentary on Korea
  2. two historical films
  3. a program of culture and arts by XU’s Korean students showcasing their music, dance, food, poetry, sample calligraphy, and exhibit of arts and crafts
  4. a forum on the popularity of Korean telenovelas (speaker Prof. Joselito B. Zulueta of UST and Editor, Arts & Books, Philippine Daily Inquirer)
  5. the Korean Imjin war and the Korean War (speaker Historian Arthur Dominic Villasanta)
  6. translation of Korean telenovelas from Korean to English and from Korean to Tagalog (speaker Jane S. Montalvo, Head of Korean Language Studies Program, Director, Intensive Korean Language Program, Philippine International College)
Cost: Admission is free for film showing at the CASSalida theater and the forum is for CASS students and is by invitation only.
