MSU-IIT Ceramic Training Center

This ceramic skills training workshop, titled “Clay Creations: Bridging MSU-IIT Campus and Talakag Community,” has been designed as an exclusive event, bringing together 10 LGU participants from Barangay Talakag, Bukidnon, along with BS Ceramic Engineering students.

This initiative is organized by the Department of Materials and Resources Engineering and Technology (DMRET) in collaboration with the Ceramic Training Center (CTC), both of which have had a long-established collaboration in hosting ceramic workshops at MSU-IIT.

This event highlights their dedication to community outreach by collaborating with a far-flung community—Barangay Talakag, Bukidnon and utilizing its unique local clay resources.

The primary goal of the workshop is to equip residents of Barangay Talakag with essential ceramic skills, fostering livelihood opportunities through the utilization of their indigenous clay materials. Simultaneously, it provides hands-on, community-focused learning experiences for ceramic engineering students.

Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including engaging lecture-discussions, practical demonstrations, and supervised hands-on sessions on fundamental ceramic handbuilding and throwing techniques.

The workshop is generously funded by MSU-IIT through the WE CARE Office - OVCPA and Coral Bay Nickel Corporation's Development of Mining Technology and Geosciences (CBNC-DMTG) initiative. It also forms part of the ongoing CBNC-approved research project (S.O. No. 00574-IIT, Series No. 2024) titled “Resource Assessment and Evaluation of Clay from Talakag Bukidnon for the Production of Earthenware/Stoneware Ceramic Bodies.”
