IPIL holds second conversation on their Who's Afraid of the Gen Zs? series

To normalize dialogues on important social topics deemed taboo, the Social Lab Unit of the Institute for Policy Innovation and Leadership (IPIL), with the support of the Gender and Development Center held the second part of their conversation series, “Who’s Afraid of the Gen Zs? Conversations on Gender, Generations, and the Gaps in Between” on February 28, 2024, at the lobby of the CASS Academic Building. The activity was attended by MSU-IIT students and high school students from the Integrated Developmental School.  

In its second installment, the subject matter discussed and talked about by invited panelists and students was the perplexities of Gen Z romance and sex. The invited panel members who steered the conversation were Asst. Prof. Fitzgerald Torralba, Asst. Prof. Lex Rei Hilario, Ms. Chelsea Agapia, and Asst. Prof. Jean S. Taypa. 

The event was hosted by Ms. Kiziah Dato from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor for Student Services and the panel discussion was moderated by IPIL Assistant Director, Asst. Prof. Ian Embradura. Students participated in an engaging discourse and were given the opportunity to be in groups and share their thoughts on the current landscape of love and relationships. 

With the aim of creating an open and safe space to facilitate discussions without necessarily having a formal structure, IPIL will continue to initiate these conversations. As stated by Asst. Prof. Embradura in an interview, what comes out of these discussions is a learning for everyone that could be used to improve on doing things in the academe. “We just need to experiment with ways of talking about certain things, certain issues, sometimes the classroom can be limiting and social media can also be unproductive,” he said. 

The third conversation for this series will be on March 20, 2024, and will focus on Language Gendered Realities.
