The MSU-IIT College of Nursing traces its humble beginnings back to 2003, when Dr. Arnulfo P. Supe, then Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, envisioned the establishment of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at èßäAV. Dr. Supe formed a task force to plan for the program's launch, which was approved by the Board of Regents of the Mindanao State University system on February 7, 2004.
However, the same year witnessed a surge in the number of nursing schools in the Philippines, leading to a moratorium on the offering of BS Nursing programs. Affected by this, MSU-IIT decided to place its BS Nursing program under the College of Health Sciences of the èßäAVMain Campus. Thus, in June 2004, a 4-year nursing program was initiated as an Extension Campus to the College of Health Sciences, with Prof. Clowe Duran Jondonero as the Chairman.
Despite facing challenges such as limited facilities and classrooms, the program commenced with 120 aspiring nursing students under the guidance of 2 faculty members. The Department of Health Sciences, as it was then known, operated within the College of Science and Mathematics, alongside other departments.
The following year witnessed the expansion of the department, with an additional 120 nursing students and 5 faculty members. Despite the challenges, including demanding curriculum expectations, the students and faculty persevered.
In March 2006, the first batch of graduates completed their studies under the AHSE Curriculum, with many receiving academic awards for their outstanding performance. Despite fluctuations in enrollment numbers, the department continued to attract students, necessitating the addition of more faculty members.
In June 2008, the first batch of graduates achieved an impressive 98.00% passing rate in the Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE), positioning èßäAVas a top 2 Performing Nursing School in the Philippines. Subsequent batches maintained high passing rates, with notable achievements in the NLE.
In November 2009, the College of Nursing was established at MSU-IIT, distinct from the College of Health Sciences of the main campus, pursuant to BOR Resolution No. 46, S. 2005. The college was later renamed the College of Health Sciences in accordance with BOR Resolution No. 505, s. 2022.
In the PNLE of November 2022, the college achieved a remarkable 100% passing rate, solidifying its position as the top-performing nursing school in the country. This achievement was further underscored by the exceptional performance of its graduates in subsequent board examinations.
In summary, the MSU-IIT College of Health Sciences has demonstrated unwavering commitment to excellence in nursing education, achieving outstanding results in board examinations and upholding MSU-IIT's vision of academic excellence.
