MSU-IIT’s Department of Physical Education (DPE) of the College of Education, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Iligan, successfully launched the kick-off of the Wellness Program for the Elderly on February 13, 2024, at Iligan City Public Plaza.

The Wellness Program for the Elderly in Iligan City is a six-month research extension project led by DPE, which aims to improve the physical fitness and overall health among senior citizens through a series of recreational interventions from February to August 2024.

As part of the wellness program kick-off activity, the 703 senior citizens in attendance underwent a free pre-medical check-up conducted by the MSU-IIT Medical Team and the City Health Office. Subsequently, the current fitness level among the senior citizens was determined through the conduct of five pre-fitness tests.

Recreational activities such as fitness dance, yoga, tai-chi, basic aikido, games, and various dances are to be conducted every Wednesday and Friday from 6:00-8:00 am at Iligan City Public Plaza.

The success of the opening activity was also supported by the city’s Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs, along with other government and civic organizations, fostering a collective effort to achieve the primary goal of the program.
