MSU-IIT has partnered with Centre International de Mathématiques Pures et Appliquées (CIMPA) to advance math understanding and contribute to community goals. The CIMPA School started on January 29 with an Opening Program at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU).

During the opening program, Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan expressed his appreciation to all the participants and organizers. “The knowledge exchanged and collaborations formed during this event have the power to influence the trajectory of mathematical research and education. We recognize that CIMPA is not merely a facilitator of current trends in algebra but a catalyst for shaping the landscape of mathematical exploration, influencing the future in profound ways,” he said.

From January 29 - February 9, NORSU will serve as a collaborative space where discussions on the current trends in Algebra will take place through course lectures, research talks, and poster presentations.

Delivering the course lectures on algebra include Jocelyn Vilela from MSU-IIT; Alfilgen Sebandal from the Research Center for Theoretical Physics, Bohol; Giang NamTran from Hanoi Institute of Mathematics, Vietnam;  Stephane Launois from University of Kent, England;  Samuel Lopes from the  University of Porto, Portugal;  María Alejandra Alvarez from the University of Antofagasta, Chile; and  Roozbeh Hazrat from Western Sydney University, Australia.

Research talks are presented by Wolfgang Bock from Linnaeus University; Lyster Rey Cabardo from MSU-IIT; Melchor Cupatan from Central Luzon State University, Philippines; Iryna Kashuba from SUSTech University, China;  Ripan Saha from Raiganj University, India; and  Arjun S N from Cochin University of Science and Technology, India.

10 foreign participants registered and joined the school. Five come from India, three from Vietnam, one from Turkey, and one from Uzbekistan. 34 faculty and graduate students from Philippine institutions such as NORSU, MSU-IIT, Silliman University, University of San Carlos, UP Los Baños, UP Baguio, Central Mindanao University, Adamson University, Central Luzon State University, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines, and Western Visayas State University, also registered and actively participated.

According to its website, CIMPA is a nonprofit organization based in Nice, France, and was established in 1978. Recognized as a UNESCO Category 2 center and part of the Laboratoire d'Excellence CARMIN, CIMPA is dedicated to promoting mathematical research in developing countries. Financially supported by Germany, France, Norway, Spain, and Switzerland, CIMPA collaborates with various organizations to organize and sponsor activities worldwide.

Key initiatives of CIMPA include annual CIMPA Schools targeting areas with a strong interest in mathematical development, CIMPA Courses funding master and research-level mathematics courses in specific geographic focus areas, and CIMPA Fellowships supporting young mathematicians from developing countries to participate in short-term thematic international programs organized by partner institutions. CIMPA's collaborations extend to continental mathematical unions, engaging in activities such as Schools in Partnership, fostering partnerships with organizations like the International Mathematical Union (IMU), the European Mathematical Society (EMS), and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics.

This year's CIMPA School was organized by MSU-IIT and NORSU in partnership with IMU, EMS, and the Mathematical Society of the Philippines.
