The Gender and Development Center (GADC) of MSU-IIT successfully held the Gender-Fair Teaching and Learning Seminar-Workshop for student teachers on January 22, 2025, at the Integrated Developmental School (IDS) Hall, Hinaplanon Campus.
With the theme “Promoting Inclusive Education: Advancing Gender-Fair Practices in Teaching and Learning,” the event aimed to equip future educators with the skills and knowledge needed to create equitable and inclusive learning environments. This activity also marked Day 3 of the CED 41st Founding Anniversary Celebration.
The seminar was graced with an inspiring message from Dr. Nancy Q. Echavez, Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs. Drawing on her personal experiences with gender bias in the workplace, Dr. Echavez encouraged participants to become advocates for gender equality in both classrooms and workplaces, emphasizing the crucial role of educators in fostering a more inclusive society.
The keynote address was delivered by Assistant Professor Yasmira P. Moner, GADC Focal Person, who discussed “Empowering Teachers to Champion Gender Equality in Education.” She called on pre-service teachers to integrate gender-fair practices into their instructional materials, ensuring inclusivity and equality in their future teaching practices.
A highlight of the seminar was a comprehensive lecture by Dr. Nimfa L. Bracamonte, an esteemed expert in the field, who delivered a session titled “Integrating Gender-Fair Principles in Lesson Plans.” Her lecture covered three critical topics: Understanding Gender-Fair Education, Strategies for Gender-Inclusive Classrooms, and Developing Gender-Fair Teaching Materials
Following the lecture, participants engaged in a hands-on workshop, where they designed lesson plans that incorporated gender-fair language relevant to their specializations. They also performed role-plays that addressed common gender-related issues in classrooms and proposed effective strategies to address these challenges.
The seminar-workshop, organized by Dr. Adelfa C. Silor, a member of the GAD Technical Working Group, is part of the university’s continuous initiatives to advance gender equality and inclusivity in education.
The event concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to championing gender-fair teaching practices. With a renewed sense of purpose, these future educators pledged to foster learning environments where every student feels valued, respected, and supported in reaching their full potential.
