Three hundred five (305) graduates were conferred with various degrees on February 21, 2025 at Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT). The day began with the Pre-Commencement Ceremonies in which the hooding and presentation of candidates for graduation, and recognition of students distinguished for academic leadership, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities took place.

The afternoon's Commencement Ceremonies was enlivened with a powerful commencement speech by Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio, the new Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Director.

Dr. Cornelio inspired the new graduates with a compelling call to action: to build a future founded on idealism, humility, and kindness, urging them to remember "no one is left behind" in the strides towards progress.

The graduates were officially conferred their degrees by èßäAVPresident Atty. Basari D. Mapupuno who passionately charged the graduates with an empowering message. “The training and knowledge accumulated by you as MSU-IIT graduates empower you to be forward-looking and foresee what lies ahead. The future you seek will not be handed to you dear graduates on a silver platter….The best way to predict and control the future is to create it," he said.

Highlighting the challenges and changes of the modern world—from globalization to ecological upheaval—he encouraged the graduates to embody the indomitable èßäAVspirit, transforming adversities into opportunities and remembering to always give thanks and give back.

Among the graduates, Elchie Mae E. Sutana, Class Valedictorian who graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education major in Home Economics, shared her poignant journey. Her speech reflected on the individual and shared struggles and triumphs of the graduating class.

Addressing her peers, Sutana inquired, “What is your ikigai? What gives your life meaning, fuels your passion and keeps you moving forward despite challenges?” Her narrative detailed personal setbacks and the resilience required to overcome them, ending on a note of collective achievement and gratitude: “So when someone asks you, why did it take you so long? Let us all answer with pride. Because I refused to give up.”

The ceremony concluded with the singing of the graduation song, oath-taking of graduates led by Alumni Regent, Engr. Samuel Sabenencio, and the singing of the Himno ng Pamantasang Mindanao.
