Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) secured the coveted Outstanding International Education Program Award on October 6 during the 2023 Internationalization Champions of Nation-Building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards, a prestigious annual event organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) International Affairs Service (IAS).
The ICONS Awards serve as a platform to recognize exemplary Philippine higher education institutions (HEIs) and leaders who have spearheaded the internationalization of Philippine Higher Education.
The Outstanding International Education Program Award is one of the four categories under the Internationalization (IZN) Awards conferred by CHED. This award is given to institutions that prioritize inclusivity in internationalization by broadening student access to global opportunities. It also underscores their commitment to adapting and integrating institutional initiatives through collaboration with both local and international partners.
MSU-IIT emerged victorious with its South Initiative Project, outshining two other finalists in the category, the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology and Tarlac Agricultural University.
The IZN Awards encompass various other distinctions, such as the StudyPH Sustainable Education Tourism Award for recipients of the Study in the Philippines Program; the Global Citizenship Awards for Private Higher Education Institutions, State, and Local Universities and Colleges (SUCs/LUCs); and the IZN Leadership Award for executive officials of HEIs who embody transformative and forward-looking leadership in the internationalization of Philippine Higher Education.
Furthermore, CHED extended recognition to HEIs for their substantial contributions to nation-building and sustainability through internationalization efforts. MSU-IIT also received additional honors for its inclusion in the prestigious QS and THE Rankings, solidifying its position as one of the top universities in the country. This is the second time MSU-IIT received such award.
The Vice Chancellor for International Affairs, Dr. Joey Genevieve T. Martinez, accepted the award on behalf of MSU-IIT.
