The University has further solidified its goal of preserving history by recently signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Mindanao Association of Museums (MAM), a non-profit organization under the National Commission for Culture and Arts that aims to conserve and promote the nation’s historical and cultural heritage, on September 25, 2024 at the CSM faculty lounge.
The MOA was attended by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Pamela F. Ressurreccion on behalf of Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan, MAM President Ar. Ildefonso F. Torres Jr, and the members of the MAM Board of Directors.
MAM is the largest and oldest regional association of museums in the country and as stipulated in the signed MOA, its new official office and address will be transferred to the MSU-IIT Natural Science Museum. The transfer from the previous office, which was located at the Museo de Oro of Xavier University, was approved during the board meeting of MAM on September 29, 2019.
In a Facebook post by the MSU-IIT Natural Science Museum, the transfer symbolizes a new chapter for MAM; more than just a change of location, it is also a stride to strengthen and enhance their “programs and outreach under the auspices of MSU-IIT.”
“We look forward to fruitful collaborations and continued support from all involved. Together, we’re committed to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Mindanao!” the post said.
The collaboration between MSU-IIT and MAM marks a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to fostering historical awareness and cultural preservation in Mindanao. By hosting MAM’s new office, MSU-IIT not only strengthens its role as a key player in the preservation of history but also enhances its engagement with the larger cultural network of the Philippines.
