MSU-IIT breaks ground for new Student Center

by Kassandra Buenafe, OfCom  | Dec 17 2024

As the year comes to a close, the University remains open to pursuing more structural developments on campus with the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the most awaited MSU-IIT Student Center, done today, December 17, 2024, at the old KASAMA Building.

This ceremony marks the continuing desire of the University to uplift student welfare by providing them with a centralized, communal space intended for relevant student assemblages and activities.

Today’s event was attended by the University Chancellor, Alizedney M. Ditucalan, the Vice-Chancellors, guests from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and RBT Ventures, Project Engineers, KASAMA officers and students.

Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Prof. Rohane M. Derogongan, expressed in her message that a facility dedicated to students will cultivate their leadership skills and nurture their passions and talents as it will be a “space for them to strategize, innovate, and advocate for the student body.”

“Our student organizations have been scattered across campus for far too long, lacking a dedicated space to call their own. This new facility will change that. It will be the heart of our campus, where students can come together to learn, create, and grow,” she said.

This sentiment is also shared by the Chancellor in his speech where he mentioned that this building is envisioned to have a library,  learning commons, and a student union center. He also shared the inspiration behind the building’s architecture which has a lot of pillars, a symbolic representation of the students being the pillar of the University.

The building will promise a more collaborative and productive MSU-IIT student community. As articulated by the KASAMA President, Arjie P. Castillon, this building will be a ground for more students to be honed as great leaders.
