STEM Education strategies discussed in IAMSTEM 2024

A month filled with intellectual gatherings in the pursuit of academic development, MSU-IIT hosted another international conference– the 7th International Conference and Annual Meeting on STEM Education (IAMSTEM 2024) held on November 6 to 7, 2024, focusing on the theme, “Reimagining STEM Education in the Digital Transformation Era.”

The two-day conference was jointly hosted by the following institutions– Phnompenh Teacher Education College; Science Education Association of Thailand (SEAT); ASEAN Comparative Educational Research Network (ACER-N); Khon Kaen University (KKU), Surindra Rajabhat University, and Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University, Thailand; Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; State University of Malang and; National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), Taiwan; Maha Sarakham Rajabhat University, Thailand; IAIN KUDUS | Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kudus; Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS); èßäAVTawi-Tawi; and Curtin University, Australia.

This year’s keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Karen Murcia from Curtin University, Australia, gave a discussion on the need to foster digital competencies in STEM education. Among the steps she was able to talk about in her presentation were promoting interdisciplinary and project-based learning, emphasizing computational and creative thinking in problem-solving, integrating emerging technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) across STEM curricula, focusing on equity and inclusivity in STEM access, and providing professional development and support for educators. 

Following this were plenary talks by speakers whose topics heavily revolved around current trends and future directions in STEM education. 

Prof. Dr. Ratchapon Suntivarakorn, faculty of Engineering of KKU talked on Innovation in Engineering for Sustainable Development: From Engineering Research and Practice to a Smart and Modern Society.

MSU-IIT’s Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise Prof. Ephrime Metillo discussed The Role of STEM Education in Nation Building.

Prof. Dr. Bevo Wahono of University of Jember in Indonesia talked on the topic Evolving teacher Perceptions of STEM Coding and Robotics: The Impact of Continuous Professional Development.

Prof. Dr. Chokchai Yuenyong, faculty of Education of KKU discussed Transforming Assessment in STEM Education for the Digital Era.

On the second day of the conference, a conference banquet was held.
