The Mining Engineering (EM) program of MSU-IIT successfully hosted the Swedish School of Mines on November 27, 2024, at the COE Conference Hall. The event featured Engr. Dawn May Patilan, an alumna of the program and a current Research Engineer at Luleå Tekniska Universitet (LTU), who represented the Swedish institution to promote academic opportunities and foster research collaboration.
LTU, located in the northernmost of Sweden, is the Swedish School of Mines and is renowned for its research, education, and infrastructure across the entire value chain of minerals and metals. The university is dedicated to equipping students with the skills necessary for the mining and recycling sectors, particularly in light of the ongoing green transition. LTU ranks 1st in Sweden, 5th in Europe, and 50th globally in Mining and Minerals Studies.
In related efforts to strengthen ties, Engr. Adrian Keith R. Caamiño, EM Program Coordinator and LTU alumnus through the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Program, met with Prof. Thomas Aiglsperger, Director of LTU’s Center for Advanced Mining and Metallurgy, at the 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference in Baguio City on November 17-22, 2024. Their discussions focused on enhancing academic collaboration and exploring future opportunities in Resources Engineering.
The event concluded with an inspiring Academic Talk aimed at encouraging Mining, Ceramic, and Metallurgical Engineering students to pursue global academic opportunities through LTU. Engrs. Caamiño and Patilan shared their personal experiences as Erasmus Mundus Scholarship alumni, offering insights into the challenges, preparations, and growth they experienced while studying abroad. Their talk served as both motivation and guidance for students eager to expand their academic horizons on a global scale.
