The growing partnership between Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) and international universities continues to strengthen, with a special focus on mental resilience and disaster preparedness. One notable event was the online international webinar hosted by Universitas Muhammadiyah Klaten (UMKLA) in Indonesia, where Dr. Neil M. Martin was invited as a guest speaker and moderator.

Held on December 24, 2024, the webinar’s theme, “Megathrust is not an issue: Building a Culture of Disaster Awareness,” focused on the importance of mental resilience in disaster contexts. Dr. Martin’s presentation, titled Building Mental Resilience: Coping with the Psychological Impact of Disasters, was a key part of the event, which was a final activity for the XXth Class of the Nursing Professional Education Program at UMKLA.

Other distinguished speakers included Dr. Mohd. Said bin Nurumal (University Malaysia), Dr. Corona Rintawan, Sp. EM, and Istiana Nurhidayati, M.Kep., Ns.SpKep.Kom. Their insights contributed to a well-rounded discussion on disaster awareness, resilience, and preparedness.

The webinar also highlighted the strengthening of ties between MSU-IIT and UMKLA, a partnership formalized through an MOU signed in early December 2024. Dr. Martin had previously visited UMKLA in August 2024, further establishing the collaborative relationship.

As MSU-IIT expands its international engagement, events like this not only promote knowledge-sharing but also pave the way for future collaborations that will benefit both institutions and their broader communities.
